THE BANDS
This groovy and ever-expanding Groningen bunch writes catchy & psychedelic instant-earworms. They've been playing a s%#*-load of shows last year and we are very happy to have them open this year's festival. Their latest EP 'Maneki Neko' came out in April 2015 on Purple Noise Record Club. Finally, front man Ben wins the 2016 O'Ceallaigh Dedication Cup for playing the pub with three different acts this year.

Anti-pop with beats and dreamy vocals from Roy Veenstra aka Idiott Smith, a relative newcomer emerging from the fertile artistic community that operates in the first-floor Bohemia called De Gym in Groningen. Roy is joined by drummer Karel in the upstairs of O'Ceallaigh

Amber Arcades is the moniker of Dutch musician Annelotte de Graaf. Having written and recorded songs in a solo setting for some time, she flew out to New York in 2015 and teamed up with producer Ben Greenberg to record her debut album. The album sees de Graaf exploring a new set of influences, presenting floating pop melodies over mantric guitar lines and is set for release in Spring 2016.

Once The Gerard Reve Songbook [Band], but quietly settled out of court by an army of seedy lawyers, even though an album was eventually digitally released by Leiden's Smikkelbaard. The last time, in early 2015, we heard songs about cubism, trains, heavy metal and Katwijk. This time there will be new songs, more charming banter & guinea pigs dressed in pajamas's. Nix aan de handa.

As a preview to their upcoming second full- length LP, Apneu recently released the 'Wrote a Letter, Tore It Up' EP with four new songs, recorded by Henk Jonkers and Roald van Oosten in the Amsterdam Vonderbunker. The new album, the follow-up of their acclaimed debut 'Hard Feelings', is planned for Spring. Apneu excel in writing highly infectious guitar-pop songs that are mostly under two minutes long.

The last time WOLVON played Kult the police stopped the gig after two songs. This edition they're is back, with new drummer Henk and brand new cassette EP 'Notice / Cymbals'. The new material is as riveting, noisy and catchy as always and during their recent shows they played an almost entire new set-list. During the first years of WOLVON, the band was known for their uncompromising floor-shows. So here we are, in Kult...

Bonne Aparte
Bonne Aparte has recently risen from hibernation. With some old and some new members. Their debut s/t album came out back in 2008 and caused a minor shift in the Earth’s rotation. Their live-shows remain an unpredictable noise-avalanche. At the time of their debut Bonne Aparte never played our showcase, so we're exited that they now will play Kult.

During the recent 10 year anniversary-celebrations of Subroutine, Vox Von Braun opened in the main hall of VERA. This was their first show in a while and the first show with new drummer Leon. Seeing them live after a short hiatus, with a great set of old & new songs and silent rumors of upcoming recordings made us very eager to hear those songs again. Their latest recording to date is 'Rich & On Wheels' (December 2012), so looking at the history of the band we should be up for something good soon.

Slow Worries are an indierock four-piece from Amsterdam, whose members have cut their teeth in bands like New YX, Pony Pack, Dusty Blinds & Houses. The songs reflect their shared love for early 90s indie and pop, combining dreamy melodies with solid dissonance. While taking cues from the likes of Helium, The Spinanes & Slant 6, their 2 guitars/drums lineup betrays a post-hardcore influence as well. There's a release coming up on Groningen's Graanrepubliek Records...

The Lumes are the latest of impressive prospects blossoming within Rotterdam's rich fringe music scene, thanks to their spectral and feverish brand of post-punk. The Lumes' driving creative force is singer/guitarist Maxime Prins, who acts as the group's manic lightning rod on stage. Watching this band perform almost feels like witnessing an exorcism, with Mitchell Quitz and Lennard van der Voort's razor-wired pounce burrowing dark echo-chambers that vindicate Prins's harrowing, angst-laden outbursts. Their latest recording is the 'Lust' EP.

Four familiar faces from the scene in Groningen, who (have) play(ed) in bands like Propeller, Vox Von Braun, Accadians, My Friend Television and Santa Fé. But this band doesn't sound anything like those. Silver Ferns follow a different path. Sometimes reviewed a dreamrock, they create a wall of sound that mix up influences ranging from early 80's to contemporary pop. Their recent show at Le Mini Who got them a host of international press-clipping and an immediate booking for this years showcase.

These legendary Groningen garage-rockers celebrate their 25th anniversary this year. Started in 1991 as the successors of instrumental surf rockers Five Fantastic Firebirds, they started playing raw, fast & furious versions of sixties guitar classics of bands like The Motions and Lil' Luis Y Los Wild Teens. In 1993 their 7" single 'Margaya' became the first release on the illustrious Kogar Records. Every once in a while they feel the uncontrollable urge to perform again and we we are very happy to welcome them to O'ceallaigh.

This Rotterdam three-piece is currently finishing their sophomore album. Their sound evolved in the last years into very intense and dynamic noiserock in which the three components loudly complement each other. The new recordings are not out yet, but there's a nice pink cassette that came out in Summer, with two songs, one a great cover of the late, great Space Siren.

The Homesick is a wow-fi post-pop band from Dokkum. Intense boredom, puberty and the impact of the world wide web in northern Friesland are the driving force for these three. Together they make pointed, transverse and often catchy pop songs.
In 2015 they played every city, village and hamlet in The Netherlands. Their latest release was the 7" single 'Boys / Stereo Lisa' in September.
